Since before Thomas Edison's phonograph, human beings have been writing music. In my short lifetime, I have had the privilege of hearing a great deal of music. Some good, some bad. Some that changed my life in a small way for the better, and some that pissed on my brain and still sits there taunting me. The thing about music (good or bad) is that it has the power to stay with us forever.
A couple of examples... "It's a beautiful day. Don't let it get away." Inspiring, no doubt. "My hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my lovely lady lumps." Inspiring, sadly. But, both will be in our brains until we pass into heaven, where Fergie will be forced to sincerely apologize to everyone as they enter God's presence.
The following are 2 lists...
The first includes some lyrics that bring a smile to my face. The second includes lyrics that bring a frown to God's face and make the angles weep.
List One.
"Daughter you wear my name. Those are my eyes, keep them raised"
- Jakob Dylan
"She took a small silver wreath and pinned it onto me, she said 'this one will bring you love'. I don't know if it's true, but I keep it for good luck."
- Conor Oberst
"I'd love to spit some beach nut in that dudes eyes, and shoot him with my old .45. A country boy can survive."
- Hank Jr.
"Congratulations on the weddin, I hope your wife know she got a playa for life, and that's no bullsh***in'."
- Tupac Shakur
"Now I can tell by the way that the rain hits the glass, that it wants to be cold. It wants to be snow."
- Karate
"All my cards are on the table with no ace left in the hole, and I'm much too young to feel this damn old."
- Garth Brooks
"I crack the window and feel the cool air cleanse my every pore, as I pour my poor heart out"
- Eve 6 (despite the source, you have to appreciate that line)
"From wounded hands, redemption fell down. Liberating man."
- David Crowder
"Between the river and the ravens I'm fed. Between oblivion and the blazes I'm led."
- Dustin Kensrue
"But now you just can't remember all the things that you said, and you're not sure you wanna know. I'll give you a hint, honey, you sure did put on a show."
- Billy Joel
"Mother**kers wanna act loco, hit em wit, numerouse shots with the fo'-fo'. Fa***ts runnin to the Po-Po's, smoke em like cocoa. F**k rap, coke by the boatload. F**k dat, on the run-by, gun high, one eye closed. Left holes through some guy clothes. Stop your bullsh***in', glock with a full clip, motherf***kers better duck when a fool spit. One shot could make a n***a do a full flip."
- Jay-Z
List Two.
"This sh** is bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S."
- Gwen Stefani
"It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife. It's like meeting the man of my dreams and meeting his beautiful wife"... (the entire song is absurd).
- Alanis Morissette
"Have you forgotten, how it felt that day? To see our homeland under fire and her people blown away. Have you forgotten, when those towers fell? We had neighbors still inside, going through a living hell. And you say we shouldn't worry bout Bin Laden. Have you forgotten?"
- Darryl Worley (Worst attempt at a rally song ever)
"I got one hand in my pocket, and the other one is playing a piano"
- Alanis Morissette (congrats... on the list twice)
"I'm not cool, but that's ok. My God loves me anyway!"
- Scott Krippayne
"What I got ya gotta give it to your mama, what I got ya gotta give it to your papa..."
- Red Hot Chili Peppers
Both of these lists could obviously go on for a very long time. I encourage you to donate any lyrics to live by, or remind us of the ones that kill us a little inside with each listen.
